Why the difference?

Polls are voted by humans — coaches, sportswriters, the Playoff Committee — and weight things like brand history, recency, and the eye test. GIE is a proprietary prediction engine. It ignores tradition. It looks at the season as it actually played out and produces a forecast for what comes next. The differences are where the disagreements live.
